Kurnool: Varikuntla Subbaiah, 38, a soldier from Ravipadu village in Cumbum Mandal, Prakasam district, lost his life in the line of duty on Monday in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Subbaiah, who had served in the army for nearly 20 years, was conducting search operations when he accidentally stepped on a landmine, resulting in a fatal explosion.
Subbaiah is survived by his wife, son, and daughter. Sub-inspector of Cumbum, B. Narasimha Rao, confirmed that Subbaiah’s body will be brought to Narpala in Anantapur district, where his in-laws reside, as he had settled there. The family and villagers are awaiting his arrival for the final rites.
