Volkswagen Tera Compact SUV – Is It Coming To India?

The sub-4-metre SUV segment is currently the most crowded and competitive one. OEMs such as Honda, Skoda, and Volkswagen will also join this bandwagon with new products in the coming years. The Skoda Kylaq is the first sub-4-metre SUV from the Czech automaker in India, which is open for booking. Its deliveries are slated to begin on 27th January 2025. Volkswagen has also confirmed that it has been working on a new SUV for the global market, called the Tera. It’s likely to be a subcompact SUV based on the Skoda Kylaq. While the German automaker hasn’t yet confirmed the Volkswagen Tera for India, the model is likely to make its way here.

Platform

The forthcoming Volkswagen Tera is currently in its initial testing phase in Argentina, and we have seen some of its spy images as well. It will be based on the MQB A0 platform that’s claimed to be “highly flexible, modular, and versatile.”

Design & Interior

The latest spy images reveal that the VW compact SUV will have slim LED headlamps, a signature grille, and a sporty bumper at the front end. Unlike the Kylaq, which has a split headlamp setup, the VW Tera will miss out on it. It will have a slightly sloping roofline, stubby taillamps connected via a black panel or bar, and decent ground clearance. Compared to the Kylaq, the Volkswagen Tera could be slightly longer and shorter with a more angular design language.

Interior details of the new Volkswagen compact SUV are not available at this point in time. However, it’s expected to share its interior layout and features with the Skoda Kylaq.

Turbo Power

It would be quite early to comment on its powertrain. However, speculations are rife that the Volkswagen Tera could feature a 1.0L, 3-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine with the 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox options.
