When the introductory prices of 3rd Gen Amaze ends, the price gap from the 2nd Gen model rises, making it more accessible for buyers

The new Honda Amaze has been launched in India and is proving to be quite a delightful package. The company aims to democratize vehicular safety for the masses by offering ADAS at unbelievably affordable prices with the new model. That said, the previous generation Amaze sedan will reportedly continue to be sold alongside the new model.

This is not a new strategy in this industry. Honda Amaze’s arch-rival, Maruti Suzuki Dzire also has continued to sell older 3rd Gen Dzire, but as a commercial vehicle called Tour S. A recent report mentions Honda will offer 2nd Gen Amaze to both private and commercial buyers, with limited trims and gearbox options. Let’s take a look.

Old Honda Amaze To Sell Alongside New Amaze

Honda is among the popular sedan manufacturers in India. The company is known for its sedans among enthusiasts. Recent reports suggest Honda will continue to sell 2nd Gen Amaze alongside just launched 3rd Gen Amaze. A similar strategy is followed by Maruti Suzuki with Dzire too.

Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) is no stranger to this strategy as well. When the 5th Gen City was launched in India, Honda continued to sell 4th Gen City in India, until the popularity completely died out. 2nd Gen Amaze is likely to be offered in limited trim levels and at a slightly lower price point than new Amaze.

2nd Gen Amaze is likely to be priced from Rs 7.71 lakh (Ex-sh) for base S trim and Rs 9.13 lakh (Ex-sh) for VX trim. For context, the just-launched 3rd Gen Amaze starts from Rs 8 lakh for base V trim and goes till Rs 10.9 lakh for top-spec ZX trim that gets Honda Sensing ADAS system.

Both vehicles will come equipped with the same 1.2L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated i-VTEC petrol engine. This engine is capable of delivering 89 bhp of peak power and 110 Nm of peak torque. Older 2nd Generation Amaze will miss out on the CVT automatic gearbox option, while newer 3rd Generation Amaze gets.

Why Though?

This engine is very popular for its peppy nature, further accentuated by Honda’s famed VTEC technology. This is also a refined engine, something which can’t be said about the new Z Series engine on its arch-rival4th Generation Dzire.

It is not clear why Honda might continue to sell 2nd Gen Dzire in India. That too, with very little price difference between both vehicles. However, the 3rd Generation Amaze’s prices are introductory and the gap in pricing will increase soon, making 2nd Gen model an affordable offering with limited features and equipment.
