VISAKHAPATNAM: A scanning technician of a corporate hospital was arrested in Vizag city after he allegedly misbehaved with a female patient and touched her body parts. The arrested person has been identified as P Prakash Rao (34).
When two women were travelling on a scooter, they met with an accident near Siripuram locality in Vizag city on Monday evening. One of them suffered injuries to her head and other parts. The woman was admitted to the corporate hospital at Ramnagar in Vizag city.
After providing first-aid to the injured woman, the medical team of the hospital asked her to undergo a CT scan to identify internal injuries.
While performing the CT scan at the hospital, Prakash Rao asked her to remove the clothes and he reportedly touched the woman inappropriately on her parts and outraged her modesty.
On hearing her screams, friends and relatives of the woman rushed and entered a heated argument with him. The relatives of the woman alleged that the management of the hospital supported Prakash.
Expressing anguish over the heinous incident, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu directed the police to take stringent action against scanning technician Prakash to deter such incidents in future.
Based on the complaint from the woman patient, the three-town police registered a case against Prakash Rao under sections 74 and 76 of BNS (assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage modesty and assault or use force with the specific intent of disrobing a woman) and arrested him and produce before the court. He was remanded for 14 days by the court and he was shifted to central prison in Vizag city on Tuesday.
