Electric Vehicles (EVs) are becoming increasingly popular among buyers due to their lower maintenance and running costs, reduced emissions, and tax benefits. Tata Motors currently dominates the segment with offerings such as the Tiago.ev, Tigor.ev, Nexon.ev, Punch.ev, and Curvv.ev. OEMs such as Maruti Suzuki, Toyota and Honda are also preparing to join the bandwagon with a range of electric SUVs in the near future. Here are key details of the forthcoming electric SUVs, which are scheduled to launch in January 2025.
Upcoming Electric SUVs In January, 2025
Maruti e-Vitara
The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara will be the first-ever electric offering from the Indo-Japanese automaker in India. The model will make its public debut at the Bharat Mobility Show next month. However, its prices are expected to be revealed in March. The design language and interior layout of the Maruti e-Vitara are entirely different from the existing Maruti Suzuki cars.
The EV retains most of its design elements from the concept and measures 4,275mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,635mm in height. The e-Vitara is built on an all-new skateboard platform, Heartect-e, and comes with two battery options – 49kWh and 61kWh. Both are equipped with BYD’s Blade cells and feature a single electric motor as standard. The dual-motor AWD setup is exclusively offered with the 61kWh battery version. While the carmaker hasn’t revealed its range, it is estimated to deliver 500km with the higher-spec setup.
Hyundai Creta EV
The Hyundai Creta EV is expected to be the biggest electric product launch of next year. The carmaker has confirmed that the model will debut at the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025, with its prices also being announced at the event. Speculations suggest that the Creta EV will come with a 45kWh battery pack and an electric motor, delivering an expected range of around 350km or more.
The carmaker will introduce a few EV-specific design changes inside and out. The electric Creta will feature a new circular three-spoke steering wheel and seat upholstery with ‘CRETA Electric’ embossing. Similar to its ICE counterpart, it will have a dual-screen setup, a central console with a button panel, and the same dashboard design. The Creta EV will be Hyundai’s first mass-market electric car, competing against the Tata Curvv.ev, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Maruti e-Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser EV.
Mahindra BE 6/XUV 9e
Mahindra & Mahindra will introduce two new born-electric SUVs in early 2025 – the BE 6 and XUV 9e. The carmaker has revealed that the entry-level variants of the Mahindra BE 6 and XUV 9e (Pack One) are priced at ₹18.90 lakh and ₹21.90 lakh, respectively. The full price list will be announced during their public debut at the Bharat Mobility Show next month.
Both EVs will come with two battery packs – 59kWh and 79kWh – utilizing LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cells. The smaller battery pack delivers a maximum power of 228bhp and 380Nm of torque, with an ARAI-claimed range of 556km. The larger battery version produces 281bhp and offers an ARAI-claimed range of 682km. The SUVs come with three drive modes – Range, Everyday, and Race. The Mahindra BE 6 and XUV 9e can be charged from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes using a 175kW DC fast charger.
