Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stirred controversy with his remarks questioning the larger-than-life image of actor Allu Arjun, following the actor’s involvement in a stampede incident during a benefit show of his blockbuster ‘Pushpa 2‘. Speaking on a national TV channel, Reddy remarked, “Allu Arjun is a film actor. Did he fight any India-Pakistan war on the border and win it for India? He made a movie, minted money, and went home.”
The comments were in response to criticism over the government’s decision to file a case against Allu Arjun for his alleged role in the stampede, which resulted in the tragic death of a woman and left a nine-year-old boy hospitalized. Reddy emphasized that the constitution is equal for everyone, and the government was acting lawfully, irrespective of the stature of the individual involved.Elaborating on the incident, the Chief Minister stated that the government had permitted a special benefit show of ‘Pushpa 2’, during which Allu Arjun’s public appearance at the theatre caused chaos.
According to Reddy, the situation escalated when the actor waved to fans from the top of his car, leading to an uncontrollable stampede. While the theatre management and others were primarily held responsible, Allu Arjun was named as accused number 11 in the case.Responding to allegations that the action was politically motivated due to a personal grudge, Reddy dismissed the claims, noting his longstanding connection with the actor’s family. “His father-in-law Chandrashekhar Reddy is a Congress leader and my relative, while his uncle, actor Chiranjeevi, is also a Congress leader,” he said.
