Drug addict who set father ablaze gets life sentence

Hyderabad: A 25-year-old man was convicted of torching his father to death at Turkayamjal in Adibatla in April and sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in LB Nagar on Friday.
The court found Tirupathi Anurag guilty of killing his father Ravinder and imposed a fine of 1,000. A Rachakonda police official said that it’s a record that a murder case was disposed of in eight months from date of the crime. Anurag, who was addicted to drugs, used to harass his parents and nursed a grudge against his father as the latter told him to stay away from drugs. On the day of the crime, when Ravinder was having lunch, Anurag emptied a bottle of fuel on him and set him on fire.
Ravinder ran out of the home engulfed in flames, but Anurag chased him on the road and killed him. After the murder, he fled the spot on his bike and surrendered at Vanasthalipuram police station. He was later arrested. During the trial, the court examined Anurag’s mother T Sudha, who was at home at the time of the crime, and other eyewitnesses who saw Ravinder running out of their home, crying for help.
The court also examined the SHO of Vanasthalipuram before whom Anurag surrendered after the murder and the records at Vanasthalipuram police station.
The court also examined the fuel samples, bottle used for carrying fuel used for setting Ravinder on fire, and Anurag’s partially burnt shirt, when Ravinder tried to defend himself, among several other materials.
