Journo assault: HC refuses to grant Mohan Babu bail

Hyderabad: Telangana high court on Friday refused to grant an anticipatory bail to senior actor Mohan Babu in a criminal case filed against him by Pahadishareef police.
Justice K Lakshman said he would pass orders only after checking the police version. Responding to the pleas of the actor’s counsel who sought interim relief, the judge said: “No interim protection today. Let the police file a counter. I will hear it on Dec 19.”
During the hearing, petitioner’s counsel Ashwini Kumar alleged that police had wrongly altered the charges from grievous hurt to attempt to murder. He also pointed out that another judge of the high court had granted time for the family to settle their dispute, implying that police intervention was unnecessary.
At this, Justice Lakshman questioned the logic behind this claim. “If police interference is not required, why did Mohan Babu file a police complaint against his younger son-actor Manoj,” he asked. The judge adjourned the case to Dec 19.
Manoj invited journalists to the Jalpally residence of his father who attacked a TV channel scribe, additional public prosecutor Jithernder Rao Veramalla said, while opposing relief to the veteran actor.
The TV journalist, who charged the actor with attacking him and causing him grievous injuries, is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital.
Mohan Babu moved a lunch motion, seeking anticipatory bail in the event of police deciding to arrest him after cops added stringent sections to the FIR.
Mohan Babu and his son were allegedly at loggerheads with each other and when Manoj invited the media to the Jalpally home of Mohan Babu, the senior actor allegedly resorted to the physical attack on the TV scribe.
