Speculations suggest that Citroen is developing an electric version of Aircross SUV and Basalt SUV and could improve sales potential
One of the oldest car manufacturers in the world, Citroen, has been trying hard to turn the tides around in India. The company has revamped the C3 lineup with new and improved features. Also, Citroen bet big on Basalt and priced it very aggressively. Despite all these efforts, Citroen’s sales hovered a hair above 500 units in November 2024.
Citroen Sales Breakup Nov 2024
Considering that Basalt has been priced very aggressively and the Coupe SUV scored 4 Stars in recent Bharat NCAP ratings, one would have thought Basalt would top Citroen’s sales charts. But that is not the case as Citroen’s best-selling vehicle in India is Aircross SUV which accounts for 39.49% of Citroen’s total sales.
Then known as C3 AircrossAircross SUV sold 201 units last month and took the top spot pulling away from C3 Hatchback with just 1 unit lead. Aircross registered a 19.28% YoY decline as opposed to 249 units sold a year ago, losing 48 units in volume. Aircross SUV saw MoM sales almost double with 95.15% MoM growth.
Company’s first locally manufactured product, C3 Hatchback, sold 200 units last month and featured in the second position after Aircross SUV. Unlike Aircross SUV, C3 experienced sales decline in both YoY and MoM aspects. When compared to 265 units sold last year and 300 units sold a month before, C3 registered a 24.53% YoY and 33.33% MoM sales decline, losing 65 units YoY and 100 units MoM.
The electric counterpart of C3 Hatchback, eC3, sold 61 units. When compared to the 18 units sold in November 2023 and 89 units sold in October 2024, eC3 electric hatchback registered 238.89% YoY growth gaining 43 units in volume and 31.46% MoM decline, losing 28 units in volume.
Basalt sold 47 units
The most interesting aspect of Citroen’s sales breakup for the month of November 2024 is the Basalt. This Coupe SUV sold just 47 units and was the least-selling car Citroen sold in November 2024, trailing ahead of the 0 units sold by C5 Aircross. We say Basalt’s sales prospect is interesting because it was supposed to take Citroen’s sales potential to a new level.
Basalt even scored a respectable 4 Stars in Bharat NCAP crash test ratings and is one of the most competitively priced SUVs in India. Despite the striking looks, attractive pricing and impressive crash performance, Basalt registered a 78.73% MoM decline, losing 174 units in volume (highest in this list).
C5 Aircross sales were zilch in November 2024. In total, Citroen managed to sell 509 units last month. When compared to the 537 units sold in November 2023 and 717 units sold in October 2024, Citroen witnessed a 5.21% YoY decline and 29.01% MoM.
