Hyderabad: The State run power distribution companies(DISCOMs) have decided to charge Rs. 1.69 per unit from those who buy electricity under open access.

Open Access Consumer means a consumer permitted by the Commission to receive supply of electricity from a person, other than the Distribution Licensee of his area of supply.

The distribution companies TG SPDCL and NPDCL have filed petitions with the Telangana State Regulatory Commission(TGERC) for the first half of the financial year 2025-26 (from April 1 to September 30, 2025). In the first half of the year, 18,180 million units are expected to be purchased by open access users from the open market. The ERC will conduct a public hearing on these petitions on January 20 at 11 am at its office.

In October, the commission allowed State-run power utilities to impose an additional surcharge of Rs.1.09/kWh on Open Access (OA) consumers for the second half of the financial year 2024-25, covering the period from October 2024 to March 2025.
