VW and Skoda featured at No. 9 and 10 respectively on the list of car makers in November 2024 with Taigun and Kushaq as their respective best-sellers
VW and Skoda sales ended negatively both on a YoY and MoM basis. Market share also declined for VW to 0.9%. Skoda market share dipped to 0.8%, a marked decline over 1.1 % share held in Nov 2023.
VW Breakup Sales Nov 2024
VW sales stood at 3,033 units in Nov 2024. This related to a 2% YoY decline from 3,095 units sold in Nov 2023. MoM sales however, fell even more drastically by 32% from 4,458 units sold in Oct 2024. This was a volume decline of 1,425 units. Taigun continued to be the best-selling model in the company portfolio despite a YoY and MoM decline in demand. Taigun sales stood at 1,497 units last month, down from 1,771 units sold in Nov 2023. There had been 2,028 unit sales in Oct 2024.
Virtus sales ended positively with a 24% YoY growth to 1,457 units, up from 1,174 units sold in Nov 2023. It however, saw a 38% MoM decline over higher festive sales of 2,351 units in Oct 2024. Tiguan SUV saw lower sales by 47% in Nov 2024 to just 79 units. This was over 150 units sold in Nov 2023 while sales remained flat with 79 units sold in Oct 2024 as well. Volkswagen is now offering Taigun mid-size SUV, Virtus mid-size sedan and Tiguan SUV with attractive year-end discounts extending upto Rs 2 lakh.
Skoda Sales Breakup Nov 2024
Skoda sales also dipped both YoY and MoM to 2,886 units in Nov 2024. This was a 24% YoY decline from 3,783 units sold in Nov 2023. MoM sales saw a 29% de-growth over 4,079 unit sales as of Oct 2024. It related to a dip in volumes by 1,193 units.
Skoda Kushaq topped sales charts with 1,524 unit sales. It however, marked a 20% YoY and 31% MoM decline from 1,908 units and 2,213 units sold in Nov 2023 and Oct 2024 respectively. Next was Skoda Slavia with 1,131 unit sales last month, a 35% YoY and 31% MoM decline. Positive response was seen in the case of Skoda Kodiaq with 225 unit sales in the past month which was a 79% YoY increase over 126 units sold in Nov 2023. It also experienced an 8% MoM improvement in demand from 209 units sold in Oct 2024. Skoda Superb sales had stood at 20 units in Oct 2024 which dipped by 70% to just 6 units sold in Nov 2024.
Skoda and VW Combined Sales Nov 2024
Volkswagen and Skoda collectively sold 5,919 units in November 2024, reflecting a 5.76% YoY decline compared to 6,281 units sold in November 2023. Among the key performers, Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus emerged strong, registering 27.51% and 24.11% YoY growth, respectively. The Kodiaq also posted an impressive 78.57% growth, selling 225 units compared to 126 units a year ago.
However, the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia witnessed significant declines, with sales dropping 20.13% and 35.33%, respectively. Meanwhile, the Tiguan recorded a sharp 47.33% dip in sales, and the recently added Superb accounted for six units. Overall, the mixed performance highlights the challenges and successes faced by both brands in a competitive market.
