The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), an entity of the Ministry of Power working for conservation of energy, has called for a nationwide movement to combat climate change and protect the environment with a collective action by governments, industries and individuals to address the alarming rise in green house gas (GHG) emissions, deforestation and pollution.
In a meeting with Principal Secretary (Energy) Sandeep Kumar Sultania and Managing Director of the Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation V. Aneela on Sunday, Media Adviser (South) of BEE A. Chandrasekhara Reddy said that the energy sector accounts for nearly 75% of all GHG emissions and transitioning to clean energy, enhancing energy efficiency, effective water management and afforestation are critical strategies to mitigate climate impacts.
While thanking the support of BEE and EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Ltd), a joint venture of the Central PSUs under MoP working for promotion of energy efficiency and providing cost-effective power in the State, Mr. Sultania highlighted the State’s commitments on the implementation of energy efficiency and green energy for economic development and environmental protection.
With the support of the MoP and Ministry of Renewable Energy, the energy department of Telangana is aiming to have 20 gigawatt renewable energy capacity by 2030 and 40 GW by 2035, Mr. Sultania said. To make school children accustomed to energy conservation with the financial support of BEE the State Government has established more than 165 energy clubs.
