National Lok Adalat: 1.57 lakh cases settled in Telangana, Hyderabad tops with 24,546

The National Lok Adalat conducted on December 14 marked a successful disposal of 1,57,088 cases across various legal categories. The event, held under the guidance of the Supreme Court, was designed to promote amicable settlements through compounding and saw active participation from law enforcement agencies, judicial authorities and the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB).

This State-wide effort began on November 28, with the identification of eligible cases and notification of the concerned parties by the police department. Among the total cases, 20,752 FIR cases were compounded, 2,131 disaster management cases were settled, 74,767 e-petty cases were resolved and 59,438 Motor Vehicle Act cases were closed.

Hyderabad emerged as the top-performing unit with 24,546 cases disposed of, followed by Cyberabad with 12,797 cases, Rachakonda with 11,083, Suryapet with 10,951 and Nizamabad with 10,246.

A key achievement of the Lok Adalat was its success in addressing cyber fraud cases, with the TGCSB facilitating the refund of ₹33.2 crore to 4,893 victims. This amount set a new record, surpassing the ₹25.2 crore refunded to 5,063 victims during the previous Lok Adalat held in September 2024. Since the initiation of this refund mechanism on February 20, 2024, the TGCSB has consistently worked to provide timely financial relief to victims, said director of the bureau Shikha Goel.

The success of this Lok Adalat was made possible by the seamless coordination between TGCSB officials, the Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TGLSA), district judges, magistrates, district legal services authorities, commissioners of police and district superintendents of police.

Director General of Police (DGP), Telangana, Jitender commended the DIG and DSP of the State Crime Records Bureau, along with the SP and DSP of TGCSB, for their diligent efforts in facilitating case disposals and cybercrime refunds. The DGP further congratulated the commissioners and superintendents of the top-performing units for their exemplary work during the Lok Adalat.

The National Lok Adalat continues to serve as a valuable platform for resolving disputes efficiently, saving time and resources for the public, and significantly reducing the burden on the judiciary. Citizens are encouraged to utilise this opportunity to settle compoundable cases amicably and benefit from the streamlined process.
