A couple of days ago, Samsung unveiled its first XR headset, which is currently in prototype form. It is called ‘Project Moohan,’ where Moohan stands for Infinity in Korean. It will be the first device to run Android XR and the first to use the ‘Hey Gemini’ hotword for voice commands.

Gemini is the central part of Google’s new operating system for AR/MR/VR headsets and AR glasses: Android XR. The whole operating system is built around AI, and Gemini is the AI assistant that will come pre-installed on all devices running Android XR.

Since Samsung’s XR headset will likely be the first device to run Android XR, it will be the first to use the ‘Hey Gemini’ hotword for voice commands. Currently, you can access Google Assistant or Gemini by using the ‘Hey Google’ hotword, but that will change in the future.

All the demos from Google for Samsung’s XR headset and Android XR used the ‘Hey Gemini’ hotword to summon the onboard AI-powered digital voice assistant. Since Google is planning to completely replace Google Assistant with Gemini, this move seems fair.

Even Samsung is expected to unveil its next-generation AI-powered digital voice assistant, Bixby, with the Galaxy S25 series next month. This new version of Bixby is already live in China, and it was released with the launch of the Samsung W25 and the Samsung W25 Flip.

Next-Generation Bixby 2024 On Screen Context

The next-generation Bixby is powered by large language models (LLMs), so it is much better at understanding complex voice commands and sentences. It is also great at understanding context. So, it is better at understanding what you are trying to say and accomplish those tasks.
