Stalker ‘kills’ minor girl’s father in Eluru district

In a shocking incident, a hotel worker Nani, allegedly stabbed and killed an auto driver, S. Venkata Kanakaraju (33), when the latter refused to give his daughter’s hand in marriage to him, at Ramakrishnapuram in Eluru district on Saturday night.

A native of Eluru, Nani, was stalking the 16-year-old girl for the last few months and insisting Kanakaraju to agree to his marriage proposal with the minor, who is a tenth class dropout. The girl’s mother died a couple of years ago, and the girl and her two sisters were staying in their relatives houses at Narayanapuram village in Eluru district.

On Saturday night, Nani had an argument with the girl’s father at Ramakrishnapuram area under Eluru Three Town police station limits. When Kanakaraju refused to give his daughter’s hand in marriage to Nani, the latter reportedly stabbed the girl’s father, killing him on the spot.

“The incident came to light in the early hours on Sunday. A case was registered and investigation is on,” the Eluru Three Town police told The Hindu on Sunday. Eluru Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) D. Sravan Kumar, who is investigating the case, said that special teams have been constituted to nab the accused.

“As the accused was stalking the girl, we shifted her to Narayanapuram village from Eluru. She discontinued her education after completing 10th class,” said a relative of the minor girl.

Meanwhile, the police asked the Women Development and Child Welfare Department officers to take care of the three siblings, who have now become orphans with the death of their father.
