Hyderabad: Three persons allegedly involved in the illegal transportation and sale of poppy straw have been arrested by Rachakonda police at Meerpet.
Police said Rajasthan residents Mangilal Bishnoi, Mangi Lal, Bhira Ram, Shaker Lal, Shravan, and Mohan Singh of Madhya Pradesh formed a gang for the sale of poppy straw. Police have arrested three of the gang members — Bishnoi, Mangi Lal, and Ram, and seized 53 kg of poppy straw from them.
“Due to financial problems, the accused decided to earn easy money by selling drugs. They came into contact with drug peddler Mohan Singh. The gang then started purchasing poppy straw at a cheaper rate from Mohan and smuggled it to Hyderabad through public transportation vehicles. In Hyderabad, the gang members were selling the drugs to the customers for a high price,” Rachakonda commissioner Sudheer Babu said.
