VIJAYAWADA: A 26-year-old woman from Tenali in Andhra Pradesh‘s Guntur pursuing her master’s in data science in the US died when the car she was travelling in hit a truck late Friday in Tennessee’s Memphis.
Nagasri Vandana Parimala (26) succumbed to her injuries after being rushed to hospital.
Two of her friends, who were with her in the car, were grievously wounded after the crash near Rockwood Avenue in Memphis, with one of them said to be critical. Local authorities in Tennessee have informed Vandana’s family of her death.
Vandana had moved to the US in Dec 2022. Besides studying for her master’s at University of Memphis, she worked as a conference assistant at the varsity, managing logistics, organising sessions and generating key metric reports.
According to US media reports, Vandana had returned from work Friday night, picked up her two friends and they were driving down when their car collided with the truck on National Street in Memphis.
AP minister Nadendla Manohar spoke to Vandana’s parents, Tenali businessman Ganesh and Ramadevi, to express condolences and pledge support.
Telugu association trying to repatriate body
Father Ganesh said that the representatives from Telugu Association of North America (TANA) were making all the efforts to expedite the process of bringing Vandana’s body back to her home to Tenali for the final rites.
It was mentioned that before moving to the US, Vandana was working as a source code professional in a firm in Chennai from Jan 2021 to Dec 2022. Vandana had completed her bachelor’s degree in technology (electronics and communication) in 2020 from a private college in her hometown.
