Brisbane Weather Forecast, India vs Australia 3rd Test: The forecast for Days 4 and 5 is better than the first three days but showers can interrupt play.
India’s prospects of taking a lead in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy fell as strongly as the rains at the Gabba on Monday, as the 33.1 overs bowled in the day were completely dominated by Pat Cummins’ Australia. India went to Stumps at 51/4 with KL Rahul and skipper Rohit Sharma carrying the hopes of avoiding a follow-on on Tuesday.
India wrapped up the final three wickets of Australia’s innings for 40 runs but then went on to lose four of their top-five in 17 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal clipped a Mitchell Starc half-volley straight to mid-wicket while Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli were caught in the cordon. Pat Cummins sealed the day for Australia by taking out 2020-21 hero Rishabh Pant for 9 (12).
Usually, rains are the enemy of a batting team as continuous breaks hamper the concentration built over many overs. In India’s case, it might be a friend. The weather forecast for the fourth and fifth day of the Test isn’t much better than the first three, which has kept a draw as a real possibility, and arguably a better prospect than an India win.
On Tuesday, showers are expected early morning between 4-8am local time (10:30pm on Monday – 2:30am on Tuesday in IST) and then in the evening after 7pm. For match timings, 55% precipitation is predicted for 11am local time (5:30am IST) so we might see a delay at the start of the first session with possible interruptions until Lunch. However, Australia would be happy to see that for the rest of the afternoon, precipitation is predicted to be under 20%.
The report is slightly worse for match timings for Wednesday, the final day of the Test. There’s not much rain expected in the morning and evening but thunderstorms are likely betwen 1-2pm local time (7:30-9:30am IST) which might hamper the second session of the day. The preciptation for this two hour window is over 66% and goes upto 75%. Even at 3pm (10:30am IST), the predicted precipitation is not much better at 49%.
India would want to make sure that they keep rain out of the picture and bat as much as possible. Avoiding the follow-on would have to be the first target. Rohit’s form and the batting depth of Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy would be up for a big test.
