Hyderabad commemorates India’s historic victory with heartfelt tributes-Telangana Today


Every year on December 16, ‘Vijay Diwas’ (Victory Day) is celebrated to mark the anniversary of India’s historic victory over Pakistan in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war, which led to the liberation of Bangladesh. The wreath-laying ceremony was held to honor India’s military achievements, recognize the bravery of its Armed Forces, and pay tribute to the courageous soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

Vijay Diwas 2024: Hyderabad commemorates India’s historic victory with heartfelt tributes


Hyderabad: As part ‘Vijay Diwas’ celebrations to commemorate the 53rd anniversary of India’s victory, which ended with the signing of the “Instrument of Surrender” by the Eastern Army Commander of Pakistan, a solemn wreath laying ceremony was organised at Veerula Sainik Smarak near General KV Krishna Rao Parade Ground, Secunderabad on Monday.

Every year, ‘Vijay Diwas’, which translates to ‘Victory Day’ in Hindi, is celebrated on December 16 since 1971, which marks the anniversary of India’s historic victory over Pakistan in the year 1971 Indo-Pakistan war that led to the liberation of Bangladesh.


The wreath laying ceremony was organised to commemorate India’s military triumphs and the bravery of its Armed forces as well as pay tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country.

Veterans, Students of Army Public Schools, Soldiers and Senior Armed forces participated in the ceremony at Veerula Sainik Smarak.

Officers paid tribute to the bravehearts by floral offerings and laying Wreaths at the War Memorial followed by the Chief Guest, Air Vice Marshal PS Wadodkar, Commandant, College of Air Warfare amidst the public spectators, fostering a sense of national pride and patriotism. This curtain raiser event also kicked-off the upcoming celebrations for the Army Day Parade 2025 with Tri-service personnel, Veterans and school students.
