It was a nostalgic moment for Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy when he rode around the streets of Nellore city on his favourite ‘Bajaj Chetak’ scooter after a gap of over 25 years.
The vehicle, bearing registration number AP26 F 717, was used by him for a decade during 1987-1997 when he was a student leader in Nellore. He later gave it to a friend in need after buying a new two-wheeler.
Recently, Mr. Sridhar Reddy got his “prized possession” back from his friend and merrily rode around the streets of Nellore on it after a long gap.
“As years rolled by, I changed several motorcycles and cars to finally own SUVs today. But, the pleasure I derived after driving my old war horse is immeasurable”, he told The Hindu with a hearty laugh.
The three-time legislator, known as an ‘aam aadmi’ in the region for reaching out to his voters and trying to solve their problems, hit the headlines two years ago when he got into an open sewer as a mark of protest against civic indifference.
“Whenever I receive grievance petitions from the public, I will use my two-wheeler to move through the lanes of Nellore. Where cars fail, my Chetak will not,” he said smiling.
