the CPI State unit has served an adjournment motion in the Telangana Assembly to address the ongoing demolitions along Hyderabad’s Musi River and the compensation for the affected residents. The motion, filed by CPI MLA K. Sambasiva Rao from Kothagudem, seeks to discuss the growing fear and anxiety among the residents who are facing eviction near the river.
The party has called for a fair and just compensation package for the displaced families, who are concerned about their future after the demolitions. In October, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced plans to build residential towers near the Musi River for the evictees. These towers are expected to feature integrated facilities such as schools, support for women’s self-help groups, and spaces for small-scale businesses, ensuring a secure future for those displaced. A key aspect of the ongoing discussions is the Musi River Rejuvenation Project, aimed at restoring the river to its historic grandeur. According to M. Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary of Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development, the primary goal of this initiative is to make the river’s water drinkable again. The project aims to address both the environmental concerns and the long-term sustainability of the river. This adjournment motion in the Telangana Assembly highlights the pressing concerns surrounding both the displacement of residents and the ambitious Musi River rejuvenation project, making it a critical issue in the state’s ongoing urban development efforts.
