The Toyota Fortuner is one of the most popular premium full-size SUVs in India. The model has always been favored for its commanding road presence, rugged looks, high ground clearance, and road capabilities. First launched in 2009, the Fortuner quickly became an instant hit. It remains the top-selling premium SUV in India, with high resale value and strong performance. The first generation received a facelift in 2012, followed by a generational shift in 2016 and a midlife update in 2020.
Now, the Fortuner is set to enter its third generation with comprehensive changes in design, features, and engine mechanics. While the official launch timeline has yet to be confirmed, reports suggest that it could arrive in 2025 or 2026. Here’s a look at all the key details of the new-gen Toyota Fortuner that we know so far.

New Turbo-Petrol Engine
Reports suggest that the new Fortuner will feature a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine, which will also power other new-generation Toyota sports cars, including the Celica and MR2. This motor will be tuned to deliver varying power and torque outputs. The new-gen Hilux pickup is likely to receive a version generating 300bhp and 400Nm of torque, while a more powerful variant producing 400bhp and 549Nm will power other Toyota cars. There will also be an even more powerful version, delivering a massive 600bhp. Check Out: Toyota’s 1st EV Is Here – Toyota Urban Cruiser EV
At this stage, it is unclear which version of the new turbo-petrol engine will be used in the new-gen Toyota Fortuner. This new petrol unit could potentially replace the existing 204bhp, 2.8L turbo-diesel engine.
30% More Efficient
Toyota’s new 2.0L turbo-petrol engine is claimed to be 30% more energy-efficient and will also have a lower carbon footprint. The company states that this new engine will be almost 10% smaller than its other motors, while delivering significantly higher power.
New Platform, ADAS, & More!
With the generational update, the Fortuner will transition from the IMV platform to the new TNGA-F platform. Toyota will also equip the SUV with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) technology, branded as the Toyota Safety Suite. This system will offer advanced safety features such as dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert, lane tracing assist, automatic high beam, pre-collision system, proactive driving assist, and road sign assist. Other features such as vehicle stability control and a hydraulic steering system (replacing the current electric power-assisted unit) will also be available.
Significant Design Changes
Design changes for the new-gen Toyota Fortuner will be significant. It is expected to feature a newly designed grille, revised headlamp clusters with integrated DRLs, and tweaked front and rear bumpers. The side profile might include heavier cladding and new dual-tone alloy wheels.
