T launches T-RACSHA app to report road, infra issues

Hyderabad: The state govt launched mobile application T-RACSHA on Friday, through which citizens can lodge complaints about damaged roads, bridges, potholes, and other related issues.
The app, available on the Play Store and App Store, currently covers roads spanning around 30,000 km under the R&B dept across the state. The govt conveyed this to the bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J Sreenivas Rao of the Telangana High Court on Monday during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL).
Additional advocate general Mohammed Imran Khan informed the bench that the services provided in the application will soon be extended to roads under the control of GHMC, Panchayat Raj, and HMDA. Following this, the bench posted the matter for the next hearing.
Earlier, a PIL was filed in the high court in which the petitioner claimed that the authorities were not taking steps to maintain the roads and footpaths free from potholes and obstructions. The authorities are also not safeguarding the manholes and not maintaining drainage holes properly, which was in violation of the Supreme Court guidelines and guidelines issued by various high courts on this matter, the PIL said. The petitioner sought to issue directions to the state govt to ensure safety measures are put in place.
The PIL also urged the court to issue directions to take steps to ensure that open manholes are protected by erecting barricades and warning lights, providing effective warnings to citizens, including those visually challenged. It also called for the framing of guidelines regarding the payment of compensation to road and footpath users in the event of any incidents like damage or loss of life due to a manhole, pothole, or poor condition of roads and footpaths.
