Hyderabad: A class 7 student died by suicide inside the hostel of a private school in Hyderabad, late on Monday evening, allegedly due to harassment by his teachers. The incident led to protests outside the school campus on Tuesday, with parents demanding strict action against the school management and faculty.
The school has also been temporarily closed.
Speaking to TOI, the father of the 12-year-old student alleged that his son was being mentally and physically tortured by his teachers, particularly his Physics teacher. He claimed that the teacher appointed class monitors and made them beat up his son.
“For the past two months, he had been telling me that he didn’t want to stay in the hostel anymore. I should have brought him home,” said the grieving father, a farmer from Telangana’s Wanaparthy district. He recalled speaking to his minor son just hours before the incident.
“Even then he didn’t sound hassled, I don’t know what happened in the hours after that. Those responsible for this must be punished,” the father said, adding how the boy was a bright student and had joined the private school this academic year.
Hayathnagar station house officer P Nagaraju Goud confirmed that the case was registered under Section 194 of the BNSS. “We received the complaint at 8 am on Tuesday, and an investigation is underway,” he said.
While the school management could not be reached for a comment, Rangareddy district education officer P Suseendra Rao said that official action will be initiated if the accusations of ill-treatment are proven. “We have ordered the temporary closure of the school, and initiated an inquiry into the allegations. We will decide the next course of action based on the findings.”
The deceased is survived by his parents and a 10-year-old sister. His father mentioned that the boy visited home just the previous weekend and spent time with them.
