Kurnool District Collector P. Ranjit Basha on Wednesday directed Panchayat Raj officials to protect government properties in gram panchayats and municipalities from encroachment.
During a review meeting, Mr. Basha reiterated that safeguarding government lands is the responsibility of the concerned officials and stressed the importance of maintaining inventory registers for gram panchayats, while instructing field officers to update them within two weeks.
He requested that the Panchayat Secretary be fully informed about Panchayat assets and that land status be monitored regularly to prevent encroachment, particularly in urban areas. Notices should be issued immediately for any encroachments, for necessary action to be taken, he directed.
The Collector expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress of the Employment Guarantee Scheme and questioned officials about labour participation and field assistant vacancies in several mandals. He stated that show-cause notices would be issued to MPDOs of mandals with unfilled positions and warned of strict action if not addressed within a week.
He highlighted the need for efficient work ID generation and accurate muster list updates to prevent manipulation. While 830 Panchayat projects had been sanctioned, only 581 were completed, with particular delays noted in several mandals, he stated, while instructing MPDOs to expedite projects and visit work sites to ensure progress.
