Tirupati: Chittoor district collector Sumit Kumar expressed displeasure over the failure of MPDOs to conduct field-level inspections for development works under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and other government initiatives.
Addressing the officials on Wednesday at the District Secretariat, he stressed the need for prompt and efficient completion of development works, especially those funded by the 15th Finance Commission, with a deadline set for March 30, 2025.
In response to concerns raised by the Vigilance team regarding discrepancies in the implementation of the MGNREGS and record-keeping in certain mandals, the collector emphasised the need for strict supervision of staff performance by MPDOs. He also called for the timely completion of CC roads, drains, and other developmental works under NREGS funds, urging MPDOs to ensure their swift execution.
Highlighting the importance of maintaining clean drinking water tanks across villages, Sumit Kumar stressed that every MPDO should verify and ensure the sanitation of water tanks and provide records of their cleaning every month.
The importance of preventing contamination and ensuring safe drinking water was a key point, the collector pointing out that the health of villagers depended on such measures.
