New sports policy to focus on infra upgrade

Vijayawada: In a move to give complete makeover to sports infrastructure in the state, the govt has designed a new sports policy.
Betting high on hosting global events, the state govt has decided to ready the infrastructure from village level. The state govt has also decided to take the support of private sector in development of infrastructure.
“The sports policy outlines the importance of organizing competitions to identify talent and hosting global events for increasing visibility with focus on developing sports tourism,” said sports and youth empowerment secretary Vadrevu Vinay Chand.
He said that they would cover all necessary spheres and leverage the role of technology. He said that the govt would encourage private sector participation in building a strong sports ecosystem, strengthen the vital role of sports associations in the state.
“The goal is to make sure that there is something for everyone in sports,” said Vinay Chand.
Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has been a strong advocate of promoting sports on the big arena to effectively market the state’s brand image. He suggested the officials to design the sports policy recognizing sports as an effective means of improving the health and well-being of society.
He is of the view that sports play a vital role in ensuring the overall development of humanity, improve quality of life, contribute to healthier societies, and bridge cultural and social divides.
“Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu told us at review meetings that successful sports persons and teams are symbols of national excellence and bring positive attention to the country on the international stage. We have readied new comprehensive policy framework for the promotion of sports which aims to provide the best-in-class infrastructure facilities to the athletes and foster sports development in the state,” said sports minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy.
He said that they have set their emphasis on identifying talent early and building an active lifestyle for its citizens.
