Toyota Kirloskar Motor aims to drive in more premium SUVs in response to the increasing market demand for larger SUVs. In 2025, the Japanese automaker will launch two rebadged or re-engineered Maruti Suzuki models: a new three-row SUV based on the Maruti Grand Vitara 7-seater and its first electric car based on the Maruti e-Vitara. The new-generation Toyota Fortuner is also expected to debut next year.
In the coming years, Toyota plans to bring a smaller version of the Fortuner to compete with Mahindra’s popular 4X4 SUVs – the Scorpio and Thar Roxx. This model is likely to be one of the first products manufactured at Toyota’s new facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Aurangabad, Maharashtra, with production scheduled to begin in 2027.
Mini Toyota Fortuner SUV
All-New Platform
This upcoming Toyota 4X4 SUV is reported to have a rugged character with a 4X4 drivetrain system. In the company’s product lineup, it will sit between the Urban Cruiser Hyryder midsize SUV and the Fortuner full-sized SUV. While its elder sibling, the Fortuner, is based on a body-on-frame chassis, the mini Toyota Fortuner will be designed on an all-new modular platform. This new architecture will support multiple body styles and powertrains.
Fortuner-Like Styling
Like the Fortuner, the new Toyota 4X4 SUV will feature high ground clearance and a commanding road presence. Exact dimensions are still under wraps, but the model is expected to measure 4,410mm in length, 1,855mm in width, and 1,870mm in height, with a wheelbase of around 2,580mm. The mini Toyota Fortuner might borrow some design elements from its elder sibling but is likely to have a more boxy stance, similar to the Land Cruiser. Design features such as a flat roof and a spare tyre mounted on the tailgate may further enhance its off-road appearance.
Petrol-Hybrid Powertrain
It is too early to confirm the powertrain setup, but media reports suggest that the new Toyota 4X4 SUV might share the 2.0L, 4-cylinder petrol engine with strong hybrid technology from the Innova Hycross. There will be no diesel engine option.
