Notices sent to 80 teachers for closing schools to attend party

Hyderabad: District collector Anudeep Durishetty, on Tuesday, suspended a deputy inspector of schools (DIoS) and issued show cause notices to 80 teachers who allegedly skipped school duties to attend a lunch party.
Action was initiated against K Yadagiri, a gazetted headmaster in Banjara Hills, who holds additional responsibility as the DIoS of Shaikpet mandal, for allowing schools to be closed for a lunch party during working hours. “Strict action would be taken against those who neglect their duties,” said Durishetty.
The incident occurred on Dec 13, when teachers in the Shaikpet mandal locked classrooms and gathered for a lunch party. The district collector issued show cause notices to 80 teachers from various govt schools in Shaikpet mandal who violated govt regulations by attending the lunch party and neglecting their duties.
Members of the teachers’ associations said that the lunch party was organised for newly appointed and transferred teachers in the district. “Teachers from about 20 schools gathered for this party, and all of them were issued notices,” said E Raghunandan, state general secretary of Balala Hakkula Sankshema Sangam, adding that strict action should be taken against them for closing schools during working hours and causing inconvenience to students.
