Underscoring that students of government-run Urdu Medium schools have been facing issues, including being moved to other schools, Member of Legislative Council Amer Ali Khan sought an opening up of Urdu teacher posts.

Mr. Khan, in a letter to the Legislative Council Chairman, stated that several teachers’ associations had met with him and pointed out that of the 1,170 Urdu Medium posts, only 516 are available for Muslims. The rest of the posts remain vacant and have been reserved for candidates belonging to the the SC, ST, and backward classes subcategories. Candidates from these categories remain unavailable, he said.

“The shortage of teachers in Urdu Medium schools is leading to dropouts or students being shifted to nearby private schools,” he stated.

Mr. Khan stated that a similar issue persisted in undivided Andhra Pradesh during DSC recruitment.

“I being a member of the Legislative Council emphasise the State government to use certain rules to open-up the reserved category and help Muslim minorities to avail jobs in DSC recruitments as there is a need for filling up vacancies,” he stated.
