Guntur police promote helmet safety with awareness drive

The Guntur district police, under a directive of Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar, conducted a helmet awareness drive on Thursday (December 19) to emphasise the importance of wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers. The campaign, led by traffic DSP M. Ramesh, was held at prominent locations in Guntur city, including Ettu Road Center and Himani Centre.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh highlighted that failure to wear helmets has resulted in numerous fatalities in road accidents. “Helmets act as a protective shield for the head, significantly reducing the risk of severe head injuries and fatalities,” he stated, citing studies supporting the life-saving potential of helmets.

As part of the campaign, traffic police commended riders adhering to safety rules by presenting them with roses. On the other hand, violators were counselled on the importance of helmet use, with approximately 70 riders fined for non-compliance.

The drive also extended to educational institutions. West Traffic CI Singaiah conducted an awareness session at Narayana Boys’ College on Amaravati Road, educating students about the benefits of wearing helmets, including protection against head injuries, UV rays and weather elements.

DSP Ramesh was joined by Traffic Circle Inspectors and Sub Inspectors and other personnel in this initiative aimed at fostering road safety awareness.

The Guntur police emphasised that wearing helmets is not just a legal requirement but a critical measure to ensure personal safety on the roads.
