Vijayawada: Amaravati is set to be the first capital city in the country to use piped gas throughout the city. To this effect, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) officials have come forward to implement the project.
A team led by A Raman Kumar, a member of the petroleum and natural gas regulatory board (PNGRB), met chief secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad on Tuesday and held discussions about the gas pipeline projects and related developmental works in the state.
They drew a comparison to the Gujarat International Finance Tech-City (GIFT) in Gandhinagar, where everything, including gas, electricity, and telecom cables, are underground.
In GIFT City, gas is being supplied to houses, business complexes, and institutions through pipes. Similarly, the IOC proposed to supply piped gas in Amaravati capital city, making it the first piped gas capital in India.
Chief secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad assured to support the proposal and promised that the state govt would provide full cooperation in this regard.
“We are excited about the PNGRB’s proposal to make Amaravati the first capital city to be connected with piped gas to all the households. We will extend our full support to this project,” said Neerabh Kumar Prasad.
Chief secretary and PNGRB representatives visited the RTGS and held a review meeting with the Andhra Pradesh Gas Development Corporation (APGDC) officials.
They discussed the progress of the natural gas pipeline construction works.
APGDC director K Dinesh Kumar explained that they have set a target to provide 80 lakh connections through piped gas system in the state. He requested cooperation from the PNGRB to achieve this goal and assured to address field-level challenges in the gas pipeline construction process by coordinating with the district collectors.
The city gas distribution director Lt. Col. Kumar Ashish, IOC general manager Satyanarayana, and other senior officials were present.
