Warangal: Darshanam Mogilaiah, the acclaimed Kinnera artist and beloved actor from the hit film Balagam, died on Thursday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Warangal.
Originating from Duggondi mandal in Warangal district, Mogilaiah had been battling kidney failure for several years and was receiving regular dialysis. His health had significantly deteriorated, confining him to bed. Tragically, his condition worsened, and he succumbed to his illness in the early hours of Thursday.
Mogilaiah gained widespread recognition through his role in Balagam, a film produced under the banner of Dil Raju and directed by comedian and director Yeldandi Venu. The movie made a big impact in the Telugu film industry, particularly highlighted by Mogilaiah’s performance in the song “Thoduga Maatho Undi Needa Ga Maatho Nadichi.” This poignant depiction of human relationships resonated deeply with audiences, becoming a standout moment that contributed to the film’s blockbuster success.
In the wake of his passing, the backward class minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced during the Ponnam Sattaiah Award function that the government would provide land, construct a house for Mogilaiah’s family, and cover all medical expenses. Additionally, Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad extended financial assistance of ₹1 lakh for his healthcare.
Previously, the state government had offered financial support for Mogilaiah’s treatment. Prominent figures such as Mega Star Chiranjeevi, director Venu, and members of the film unit also contributed to his medical expenses.
Following Mogilaiah’s death, director Venu, fellow actors, and villagers expressed their heartfelt condolences to his family. “Darshanam was not just a talented artist but also a cherished member of our community. His contributions to cinema and his kindness will be deeply missed,” said Venu.
