Affected Jimny owners are encouraged to take their vehicle to nearest Nexa service centre for inspection and replacement of parts

India’s lifestyle SUV segment has witnessed a huge surge in popularity and acceptance ever since the launch of Mahindra Thar in 2020. Challenging the Thar, Maruti Suzuki launched Jimny 5-Door in India. Jimny has been a go-to lifestyle off-roader in India for buyers looking for a vehicle with a smaller footprint.

Among the Jimny owner’s community, one common issue was gaining prominence and reached the ears of the company. We’re talking about the steering wobble issue that many also call “Death Wobble”. Maruti Suzuki has initiated a free service bulletin to address this issue for owners who are facing said issue.

Maruti Jimny Steering Wobble

Jimny owners had been facing steering wobble issues when braking between the speeds below 80 km/h. In these conditions, steering would wobble mildly until the speeds drop below 60 km/h. This issue is predominantly observed in vehicles with mileage (odometer) below 5,000 km. However, this issue has also been found in vehicles with mileage above 5,000 km.

Regardless of the mileage covered by owners, Maruti Suzuki has now issued a free service bulletin that aims to fix this issue for affected owners only. The company has identified that the issues revolve around potentially faulty brake components. Especially Kingpin assembly and front brake discs.

The potentially faulty Kingpin assembly in Jimny’s braking system is causing premature wear of brake discs that causes steering wobble under braking. Maruti Suzuki’s free service bulletin only aims at fixing the issue with affected vehicles and is hence not a recall.

At Nexa service centres, Maruti Suzuki will document testing process in a video medium. Only vehicles found with steering wobble issue will be eligible for the free service process where Maruti Suzuki will replace faulty Kingpin assembly and front brake discs for free under warranty and no additional cost on owner’s tab.

No replacement for modded Jimny

The need to replace Kingpin assembly and brake discs is subject to inspection along with severity of the effects and necessity of said parts. Also, vehicles with modified tyres will not be eligible for this free service bulletin. Only vehicles with steering wobble running on stock 195/80-R15 tyres will be addressed.

If steering wobble is present, service personnel will initiate a free replacement of Kingpin assembly and brake discs, depending on the severity of this issue.
