Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh high court on Thursday raised concerns over lack of action against IPS officer and former state intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu, the second accused in the case filed by Mumbai-based actress Kadambari Jethwani. The court questioned why Anjaneyulu was not arrested despite his alleged involvement, and wanted to know if he was evading arrest by avoiding an anticipatory bail petition.
Advocate general Dammalapati Srinivas, representing the CID, defended the decision to not arrest Anjaneyulu, stating that the investigating officer has the discretion to determine who to arrest based on evidence.
He emphasised the importance of custodial interrogation for other accused officers to uncover the facts of the case and urged the court not to consider their anticipatory bail pleas.
The case involves allegations of conspiracy and misconduct against senior IPS officers, including Kanthi Rana Tata, Vishal Gunni, and former Vijayawada ACP Hanumanthu Rao. Lawyers representing the petitioners argued that the investigation has progressed significantly and custodial interrogation was unnecessary. They assured the court of their willingness to cooperate and sought anticipatory bail.
On behalf of Jethwani’s, lawyers Vasireddy Prabhunath and Narra Srinivasa Rao argued that all evidence pointed to a conspiracy and highlighted the suspension of the accused officers. They asserted that granting bail would hinder the investigation.
