Wet weather prevailed in the city as a steady, continuous drizzle drenched north-coastal Andhra Pradesh on Thursday. The rainfall was caused by an active low pressure over the Bay of Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The region will continue to witness rainfall till Saturday, weather experts predicted, adding that isolated places in the State are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
“The low pressure was observed over the west-central Bay of Bengal on Thursday morning. It was observed moving towards south Andhra Pradesh on Thursday. It is expected to move northwards along the Andhra Pradesh coast on December 20,” said S. Stella, Director, IMD, Amaravati Centre.
In the 24 hours till 8.30 a.m. on December 19, Bondapalli in Vizianagaram district recorded 23 mm of rainfall. Anantagiri in ASR district recorded 22.5 mm of rainfall. Madhurawada under GVMC limits recorded the city’s highest rainfall of 18 mm. Winds are likely to blow at a speed of 30-40 kmph along the city’s coast.
