Hyderabad: A bench of Supreme Court comprising Justice BR Gavai and Justice Viswanathan on Friday issued notices to various aspirants asking them to respond by Jan 7 to an appeal filed by Telangana challenging the state high court order regarding PG medical admissions.
The bench, however, refused to pass any interim order staying the HC order.
The HC had struck down GOs 148 and 149, which amended the eligibility criteria for local candidates in PG medical courses.
The HC ruled that these amendments violated the Presidential Order of 1974 and Article 371D of the Constitution, which define local candidates based on their place of study. The HC allowed all candidates who completed their MBBS, BAMS or BHMS courses in Telangana to participate in the counseling for local-category seats in PG medical admissions for the 2024-25 academic year.
Telangana govt has approached the apex court, seeking to overturn the HC’s decision. TNN
