Bhavani Deeksha Viramana begins at Kanaka Durga temple

Vijayawada: The Bhavani Deeksha Viramana (relinquishment) festival, the second-largest celebration at the Kanaka Durga temple, commenced with the traditional bonfire at homa gundam (holy fire) on Saturday. The temple executive officer (EO) KS Rama Rao, along with vedic scholars, lit the sacred fire and marked initiation of the Deeksha Viramana ritual.
A moderate flow of devotees was seen on the first day, the darshan continued for approximately three hours. By Saturday evening, around 29,000 devotees visited the temple, with thousands travelling from distant locations to participate in the festivities. Revenue, police, municipal, and endowment officials have been ensuring seamless arrangements for the devotees.
On the occasion, Rama Rao personally inspected facilities such as tonsuring counters, bathing areas, free anna prasadam (free food) counters, and laddu prasadam counters. He directed the temple staff to maintain efficient services throughout the festival.
Moreover, district collector Dr G Lakshmisha conducted a surprise inspection and issued instructions to staff managing queues and ensuring devotees had darshan without any hindrance.
Vijayawada municipal commissioner HM Dhyanachandra inspected sanitation and bathing facilities around the temple. He put the zonal commissioners in charge of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene during the festival.
The festival also impacted traffic in the One Town area, as devotees performed Giri Pradakshina around Indrakiladri Hill.
