BRS Cooked The Books, Stalled Development: CM Revanth Reddy | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy has said the Congress govt could not implement some welfare schemes and payments were delayed because of borrowings made during the nine-year BRS rule. The govt was paying 6,500 crore towards interest to financial agencies and banks every month. He said the BRS govt fudged budget figures earlier, and the same was noted by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in their reports.
He alleged that the main opposition party, BRS, instigated Lagacherla farmers against the govt when his administration was trying to set up pharma industries in the Kodangal assembly constituency for the development and employment opportunities of the youth in that area.
“Implementation of a couple of schemes in the six guarantees, such as financial assistance to women, one tola gold under Shadi Mubarak and Kalyana Lakshmi, could not release pending bills for Rajiv Aarogyasri, fee reimbursement, and hostel bills, because of 7,22,788 crore loans as of Dec 18, 2024” the CM told the assembly on Saturday.
The CM said the BRS govt was quoting RBI statistical report on the state govt liabilities and claiming BRS loans were about 4 lakh crore, not 7 lakh crore as claimed by the state govt. However, he said BRS only showed part of the loans taken by 19 corporations as govt liability in its budget for the 2022-23 fiscal. “The corporations took 1,29,283 crore, but the govt said its liability was only 32,867 crore. For instance, while Kaleshwaram corporation took a loan of 64,651 crore, the liability was shown only for 16,162 crore. Similarly, for Mission Bhagiratha Corporation, loans to the tune of 22,427 crore were taken, but only 16,213 crore was shown,” Revanth Reddy said.
The Congress govt took loans of about 1,27,000 crore, as claimed by BRS, mainly to pay interest to banks and financial institutions. “While 16 CMs of the united AP, before K Chandrasekhar Rao, borrowed 72,000 crore, in 10 years, KCR created a debt of 7 lakh crore,” he said.
“The BRS govt acquired valuable land, about 15,000 acres, for Pharma City close to Shamshabad international airport. Since Kodangal, my assembly constituency, is backward, I proposed an industrial park or corridor in just 1,300 acres to provide employment to the local youth and development, as 85% of the people in the constituency belong to SC, ST, and BC communities. The land is not very valuable compared to Pharma City,” the CM said.
He asked the opposition party to clarify whether they do not want any development in the area and whether they don’t want any development in the city, such as the Regional Ring Road, Future City, radial roads, and Metro rail expansion.
Revanth Reddy said he was not scared of anyone and would continue development activities in Kodangal area.
