Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh govt on Saturday constituted a committee of ministers to study the free bus travel facility for women being implemented in other states before launching it in the state. This initiative was one of the key promises made by the NDA alliance parties as part of the ‘Super Six’ commitments announced before the 2024 elections. The scheme is currently being implemented in states like Karnataka and Telangana.
The committee composed of women and child welfare minister Gummadi Sandhya Rani and the home minister VAnitha, will be chaired by transport minister M Ramprasad Reddy. Kantilal Dande, principal secretary (roads and buildings department) will serve as the convener, overseeing the coordination of the proceedings and meetings. The group of ministers (GoM) has been tasked with submitting their report and recommendations to govt promptly, to enable further necessary action on the matter.
“Govt has decided to constitute a GoM for the purpose of visiting and studying the ‘free bus travel for women’ scheme in the states, where it is already implemented, so as to evolve a suitable model for AP,” read an order released by AP govt.
