The case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with a scuffle on the Parliament premiseswas handed over to the Crime Branch, a senior officer of the Delhi Police said on Friday (December 20, 2024).
The first information report (FIR) was lodged in the Parliament Street police station after Hemang Joshi, BJP MP from Vadodara, filed a complaint on Thursday accusing the Congress leader of “physical assault and incitement” during the scuffle” in which two BJP MPs, Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, were injured.

The police booked Mr. Gandhi under Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 117 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 125 (act of endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
A senior officer told The Hindu that the police are set to request CCTV footage of the Parliament premises. The officer further added that the police had sent a communication to the injured MPs, Mr. Sarangi and Mr. Rajput, and will record their statements after they return from hospital. The police also collected their medical reports, he added.

However, the police are yet to “send a communication to Mr. Gandhi for questioning him”, the officer added.
The Congress had also lodged a complaint in connection with the matter. A delegation of Congress MPs, including Digvijaya Singh, Mukul Wasnik, Rajiv Shukla and Pramod Tiwari, filed the complaint after visiting the station in person, the officer added.
