12 arrested for dacoity at city jeweller’s home

Hyderabad: Ten days after a dacoity at the residence of a jewellery maker in Domalguda, the Task Force sleuths arrested 12 individuals, including the victim’s brother, on Sunday.
The prime accused, Indrajit Ghorai, along with 11 others—Altaf Mohammed Khan, Syed Irfan Ahmed, Mohammed Noorullah, Habeeb Hussain, Shaik Shabbir, Mohd Arbaaz, Shoaib Khan, Gulam Maqdum, Shaik Osman, Shaik Allauddin, and Shaik Akram—were taken into custody. Police also recovered 1.2 crore worth of stolen property from the suspects.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Indrajit Ghorai, feeling jealous of his brother Ranjeet Ghorai’s successful business, plotted the dacoity.
The two brothers lived on the same premises. While Ranjeet was thriving in his jewellery business and acquiring additional properties, Indrajit Ghorai was struggling financially after losing money to online and cricket betting.
Frustrated by his financial difficulties, Indrajit confided in his associate Altaf Mohammed Khan and devised a plan to rob his brother. They enlisted the help of advocate Mohammed Noorullah and others to execute the crime.
On the night of December 12, a group of the accused entered the victim’s house, armed with knives and a lighter gun, and threatened the family before stealing 2 kg of gold ornaments. Among the arrested, Mohd Arbaaz, a known history-sheeter, provided the weapons for the robbery.
Both the victim and the prime accused are originally from West Bengal and had moved to Hyderabad several years ago in search of work. The victim also runs an ornament-making workshop at his residence.
