Minister for Roads and Buildings and Cinematography Komatireddy Venkata Reddy on Saturday (December 21) announced that the government will no longer allow benefit shows of films unless they are social-issues-oriented and patriotic ones.

Speaking to media persons after visiting Sri Tej, who is battling for his life after being injured in a stampede at Sandhya theatre during Pushpa 2’s screening, at KIMS hospital, he said the government will bear the medical expenses of the child. Mr. Venkata Reddy also announced a financial assistance of ₹25 lakh from Prateek Foundation, an organisation named after his late son.

He said the government will ensure the best medical care for Sai Tej. He also apologised to the family, which is mourning the death of the child’s mother in the stampede, though the fault lies allegedly with the film’s lead actor.

The Minister said that film stars should follow rules and stay away from road shows when the police deny permission. He added that the government will encourage the film industry and promote it through incentives.
