Vijayawada: Over 100 sheep were killed, and another 40 sustained injuries after a speeding private bus rammed into a herd of sheep in Dachepalli of Palnadu district on Sunday. The shepherd, identified as Mallesh from Mahbubnagar district in Telangana, suffered severe injuries.
Mallesh was transporting his flock towards Dachepalli when the accident occurred.
According to Dachepalli inspector Bhaskar, the bus driver fled from the spot immediately after the accident.
Preliminary investigations suggested that overspeeding and possible drowsiness as the primary causes of the accident. Locals informed the police, who rushed to the scene and shifted the injured shepherd to a nearby hospital.
A case was registered, and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar took cognizance of the Dachepalli incident and spoke to the district collector and superintendent of police.
