Hyderabad: Irrigation and civil supplies minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday said the previous BRS govt left behind 5,197 crore fee reimbursement dues, which led to the shut down of many private colleges. He said chief minister A Revanth Reddy-led Congress govt is working to resolve this issue and ensure quality education is made accessible to even the poorest sections of society.
“The Congress govt is spending about 5,000 crore to establish integrated residential schools, each in 25 acres, in all the 119 assembly constituencies. The state govt is committed to making quality education accessible to all sections of society by addressing long-standing gaps in the education system. Over 11,000 teacher posts were filled in one year, and promotions and transfers were facilitated,” he said.
The minister explained various initiatives taken up to overhaul and improve the system and quality of education, including the appointment of full-time vice chancellors to the universities in the state.
He was addressing the alumni meet of BR Ambedkar Educational Institutions in Bagh Lingampally on Sunday, organised as part of the institution’s golden jubilee celebrations, marking 50 years of service in education.
The event coincided with the 10th death anniversary of Gaddam Venkatswamy, the institution’s founder. Dignitaries, including assembly speaker Gaddam Prasad, BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MLA G Vivek Venkataswamy, and MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna, were present.
Uttam paid tributes to the late Gaddam Venkatswamy and termed him a towering figure in Indian politics who held positions such as MLA, MP, Union minister, PCC president, and CWC member.
