Rachakonda police commissionerate’s annual crime report for 2024 reveals a 4% increase in overall crime across the jurisdiction of the commissionerate. The total cases rose from 27,586 in 2023 to 28,626 this year.

Cases of robbery decreased by 6% from 125 in 2023 to 118 in 2024. House burglaries by day and night saw a notable reduction of 17%, dropping from 767 cases to 633. However, murders rose by 11%, from 66 to 73 cases. Kidnappings, including cases involving missing minors, increased by 10%, from 420 to 463. Rape cases, including those involving false promises of marriage, grew by 17%, from 327 to 384. Dowry deaths showed an increase of 13%, from 16 to 18 cases. On the other hand, domestic violence cases dropped by 23%, from 1,582 to 1,222, while cases of molestation and POCSO violations decreased by 10%, from 1,061 to 953.

Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu said that 2024 is marked by their unwavering commitment to justice, public safety, and community well-being, with a special emphasis on VQT – visible policing, quick response and integration of technology to combat rising crimes, particularly those affecting women, weaker sections and victims from across the society.

“In alignment with the Telangana State Government’s mission, we intensified efforts against drug abuse and trafficking. With coordinated effort, we could arrest 521 NDPS/ drug offenders this year and seized ₹88.25 crore worth of drugs and mounted effective surveillance over 159 drug traffickers,” he said.

“ A case load of 33,084 cases was addressed with a commendable 76% resolution rate which is highest in the State. The 64% conviction rate is the highest in Telangana for major crimes for the sixth consecutive year,” said the commissioner.

Traffic management and road safety

A 12.3% reduction in road accident cases and a 12.21% decrease in fatalities underscore the commissionerate’s proactive approach towards traffic management. “Covering a vast area of 5,122 sq km with five national highways, the efforts included public awareness campaigns, stricter enforcement of the Motor Vehicle Act, and multi-stakeholder coordination,” said the commissioner.

The introduction of certified traffic marshals and mega traffic awareness rallies played a pivotal role in these achievements, he added.

Crimes against women

In a significant development, crimes against women reported in 2024 dropped by 9%. The SHE Teams and Bharosa Centres, combined with intensified patrolling in vulnerable areas, fostered a safer environment. This year, cases of molestation and POCSO violations dropped by 10%, while domestic violence cases fell by 13%.

Cybercrime sees a jump

The Rachakonda Cybercrime Unit witnessed a surge of 42% with 4,458 cases reported this year as opposed to 2,562 last year. In 2024, the unit helped refund ₹22 crore to victims of cyber fraud. Cybercrime awareness programmes focusing on fake news, social engineering, and online reputation management were conducted across colleges, IT firms, and communities to enhance public vigilance.

Property and organised crime

The year witnessed a 10% decline in property crimes. Efforts to combat organised crime included the dismantling of child trafficking rackets, rescuing 15 babies, and cracking cases involving interstate chain snatchers and notorious offenders.
