VISAKHAPATNAM: Four workers of a pharma chemical company in Parawada, Anakapalle district, fell ill after they allegedly inhaled fumes of a chemical. Two of them were undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Vizag city.
The incident took place at Rakshit Drugs, and the hospitalised workers were identified as Dev Baghand and Ugres Gowda, both from Odisha.
Anakapalle district Collector Vijay Krishnan asked the officials to ensure comprehensive medical care for the affected workers. Medical staff reported that one worker’s condition remains critical.
The district collector instructed industries and pollution control officials to launch a thorough investigation into the incident and submit their findings.
As per the preliminary information, the incident occurred on Monday morning when hydrogen sulphide gas was released from Production Block 1 of the facility.
minister Vasamsetty Subhash expressed concern over the recurring accidents at the pharma firms in Parawada. He assured that investigations would be conducted into the toxic gas leak and that appropriate actions would be taken against the responsible parties.
