Hyderabad: A third year engineering student, 21, who was on her way to her hostel in Gandipet, was killed when the bike she was pillion-riding was hit by a car near Nanakramguda rotary in Raidurgam on Sunday night.
I Shivani died on the spot, while her friend Venkat Reddy, who was riding the bike, was seriously injured. The car, driven by Y Srikalash, a BBA student, was speeding at the time of the accident, said Raidurgam police. Srikalash, who on his way home to Serilingampally, however, was not drunk at the time of the accident, said a police official.
According to police, Shivani attended her SSC alumni meet in her native Nizam Sagar in Nizamabad district. On her return, she got down at Gachibowli to go to her hostel. Venkat Reddy picked her up on his bike, and they set out towards Gandipet.
Venkat Reddy received severe injuries on his hands, legs, and other body parts, and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
On a complaint from Shivani’s father Narsaiah, a case was registered against Srikalash. He was taken into custody for questioning and his car was seized, said police.
