The Rushikonda Beach south road, constructed during the tenure of the previous TDP government at a cost of ₹2 crore, which was closed during the previous YSRCP regime, was reopened for the public on Monday.
After efforts by Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament M. Sribharat, the road, which was inaccessible for years and restricted primarily to private use, is now fully operational. This will relieve tourists’ concerns and ease traffic congestion in the area, said a release.
The reopening of this alternate route to Rushikonda Beach is expected to decongest the main road and parking facilities, significantly enhancing the experience of visitors.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Sribharat emphasised, “This government is committed to addressing public needs and boosting Visakhapatnam’s tourism potential. Reopening the south road is a key step in providing seamless access to Rushikonda Beach, enhancing the overall experience for visitors.”
The MP further said that for years, South Road was closed to the public and used exclusively for the palatial buildings built during the YSRCP regime, much to the inconvenience of tourists and locals. With the support of the coalition government, the MP took the initiative to restore the road.
The release added that the road has now been reopened following extensive consultations with authorities and necessary repairs, marking a major milestone in Visakhapatnam’s infrastructure development.
The reopening ceremony was attended by Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao, Vizag South MLA Vamsi Krishna Srinivas, Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) Chairman Pranav Gopal, Gandi Babji, NTR Vaidya Seva Chairman Seethamraju Sudhakar, and Jana Sena Bheemili in-charge Panchakarla Sandeep, among others.
