Vijayawada: The long-awaited Godavarru-Royyur road, which once was unsuitable even for walking, is nearing completion, bringing relief to over 21,000 residents of Kankipadu, Royyur, and Godavarru panchayats.
Deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan, during the ‘Palle Panduga’ (village festival) in Kankipadu on Oct 14, 2024, pledged to expedite the road’s construction works and true to his word, the road is now transformed, ensuring a smooth journey for commuters.
Pawan Kalyan visited Godavarru on Monday to inspect the quality of the five-kilometre road constructed with a budget of ₹3 crore, sourced from the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) and SDRF funds. The road includes 3.63 km of CC road and a BT stretch which is nearing completion. Officials assured the deputy CM that the work would be completed by Sankranti, emphasising the use of three-layer construction for durability. Pawan Kalyan personally supervised the process, ensuring quality standards were upheld.
Residents expressed gratitude, recounting years of hardship due to the road’s poor condition. Farmers struggled to transport their produce, and pregnant women faced severe challenges in accessing medical care. Pawan Kalyan advised officials to focus on sustainable construction, urging public participation in monitoring quality.
Pawan Kalyan also inspected the rural protected drinking water project at Mallayapalem in Gudivada constituency. Repairs worth ₹3.8 crore were initiated for fresh water systems in 44 villages. Filter beds in 14 villages were replaced at a cost of ₹4 lakh. The deputy CM reviewed water quality before and after repairs, ensuring safe drinking water for residents.
